How To Unclog A MakerBot Replicator 2 Nozzle
From time to time the MakerBot Replicator 2 3D printer nozzle will clog, leading to air-printing, jamming, and printer downtime. Replacing it with a fresh nozzle will fix the issue, but if you don’t have time to wait for a part, try manually unclogging it first.
Tools Needed:
- Side or flush cutter
Let’s Get Started
- Preheat your Replicator 2 to 230°C (which should be the factory setting).
- Once the printer is preheated, grab the filament with your left hand and push down on the black drive gear block with your right hand.
- Push down on the filament until you see plastic melting out of the nozzle.
- Pull up quickly on the filament to release it from the machine. This should grab the clog.
- Use the side cutter to clip off the end of the filament that contains the clog.
- Repeat this process 3 to 5 times.
- Print a 10 to 15 minute test print to make sure your printer is working properly.
Still clogged?
- If this does not solve the issue – go to “Info and Settings” on your MakerBot Replicator 2.
- Then select “Preheat Settings”.
- Change the temperature to 250°C.
- Repeat the same steps that you did at 230°C.
- Repeat the push down, pull up process 3 to 5 times.
- If the nozzle is clear return to “Info and Settings” then “Preheat Settings”.
- Change the temperature back to 230°C.
- Print a 10 to 15 minute test print to make sure your printer is working properly.
STILL clogged?
- If this does not solve the issue – go to “Info and Settings” on your MakerBot Replicator 2.
- Then select “Preheat Settings”.
- Change the temperature to 260°C. DO NOT EXCEED THIS TEMPERATURE AS THIS COULD CAUSE DAMAGE.
- Repeat the push down, pull up process another 3 to 5 times.
- If the nozzle is clear return to “Info and Settings” then “Preheat Settings”.
- Change the temperature back to 230°C.
- Print a 10 to 15 minute test print to make sure your printer is working properly.
